May 2023 Clinical Update:

USPSTF Releases New Draft Recommendations for Breast Cancer Screening

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has issued draft recommendations on breast cancer screening, suggesting that women should start getting screening mammograms at the age of 40 instead of 50. The Task Force found that initiating screening 10 years earlier could potentially save thousands of lives annually. According to the proposed guidelines, women between the ages of 40 and 74 should have screening mammograms every two years. This shift in recommendations is based on new scientific evidence and aims to address concerning trends, such as an increase in breast cancer diagnoses among women under 50 and a persistent survival gap for younger Black women compared to their White counterparts.

Genetics Institute of America is committed to ensuring you are aware of updated standards put forth by prestigious organizations, like USPSTF, and ensuring that the panels we offer support your medical needs and your patient’s health and safety.
